Residential and Shelter Services

Buckman House

Buckman House serves emotionally disturbed delinquent males, ages 17 to 25, who have successfully completed treatment at the MacLaren State Training School and one of the four close custody juvenile correction work camps and is the only youth care center in Oregon dedicated to providing these youth with independent living and mental health aftercare services.

The program strives to provide a balanced approach of holding youth accountable for their actions and building skills needed to transition successfully and safely back into the community. Services include comprehensive assessment and treatment planning, individual and group counseling, education and vocational training, job development and career counseling. Buckman primarily serves young men from the Portland Metropolitan area, and accepts statewide referrals.

In addition to its Residential Treatment Services, Buckman House established The Annex, an adjacent 120-day transitional living apartment under limited supervision for youth who successfully graduate from the core residential program and need to actively practice their independent living skills prior to living on their own.

Buckman House also operates the Day Treatment Services, a 90-day program that working with community-placed clients who are under the supervision of either the Oregon Youth Authority or Oregon’s Department of Human Services and must reside in a community placement.

Clackamas House and Taylor House

Clackamas House and Taylor House are designed as step down programs for female and male youth, ages 13 to 17, leaving higher level of care facilities but still requiring structured and supervised living environments. Clients for both programs (Clackamas House serves females and Taylor House serves males) must be referred by Oregon’s Department of Human Services.

The typical youth served by the programs has been the victim of physical and sexual abuse, been abandoned or neglected, has oppositional/defiant behaviors, is self abusive, withdrawn, has poor social skills, exhibits anger management or delinquency behaviors and has done poorly academically.

Designed to help youth achieve their optimal functioning and the highest degree of independence given their age and developmental stage, programming at both Clackamas and Taylor Houses focuses on logical consequences, a modified level system, activity based programming, asset based competencies and solution focused relationships. Non-secure facilities, both programs are staffed by 24-hour awake professional staff that are trained to help youth as they learn to break the cycles of abuse and victimization that entrap them in dysfunctional behavior patterns.

Cordero House

A long-term residential program, Cordero serves boys 14 to 19 and their families who are in need of individual, group and family counseling as the result of sexual abuse. Services include residential and out patient skill building and mental health counseling, psychiatric assessment and medication management for youth in the custody of the Oregon Youth Authority.

Cordero is one of a small number of programs offering intensive supervision, residential services and mental health services specifically focused on sexual offending and victimization. The program also offers an on-campus high school in conjunction with the Tigard/Tualatin School District.

Imani House

Imani provides temporary 90-day shelter and evaluation services for boys, ages 12 to 18, in Multnomah County who are referred by Oregon’s Department of Human Services. While at Imani, youth attend a specialized classroom at Roosevelt High School with the option to transfer to a less restrictive school program at Hosford Middle School or Clinton School. Imani places a high priority on family reunification and stabilization which results in a high percentage of youth returning to their homes rather than being placed in residential or foster care.
