Residential Services

Buckman House

Buckman House serves emotionally disturbed delinquent males, ages 17 to 25, who have successfully completed treatment at the MacLaren State Training School and one of the four close custody juvenile correction work camps and is the only youth care center in Oregon dedicated to providing these youth with independent living and mental health aftercare services.

The program strives to provide a balanced approach of holding youth accountable for their actions and building skills needed to transition successfully and safely back into the community. Services include comprehensive assessment and treatment planning, individual and group counseling, education and vocational training, job development and career counseling. Buckman primarily serves young men from the Portland Metropolitan area, and accepts statewide referrals.

In addition to its Residential Treatment Services, Buckman House established The Annex, an adjacent 120-day transitional living apartment under limited supervision for youth who successfully graduate from the core residential program and need to actively practice their independent living skills prior to living on their own.

Buckman Annex

The Annex is a 120-day independent living and community transition program for youth who successfully graduate from the core residential program Buckman House and are stepping down to a BRS Level 3 program. The Annex can accommodate four youth in apartment-style housing to practice independent living skills while under limited staff supervision. Youth are expected to maintain employment, pay bills, and take care of their housekeeping as they transition fully into the community.

Clackamas House

Clackamas House is designed as a step down program for female youth, ages 13 to 17, leaving higher levels of care facilities but still requiring structured and supervised living environments. Clients for Clackamas House must be referred by Oregon's Department of Human Services.

The typical youth served by the program have been the victim of physical and sexual abuse, been abandoned or neglected, have oppositional/defiant behaviors, are self abusive, withdrawn, have poor social skills, exhibits anger management or delinquency behaviors and have done poorly academically.

Designed to help youth achieve their optimal functioning and the highest degree of independence given their age and developmental stage, programming at Clackamas House focuses on logical consequences, a modified level system, activity based programming, asset based competencies and solution focused relationships. A non-secure facility, Clackamas House is staffed by 24-hour awake professional staff that are trained to help youth as they learn to break the cycles of abuse and victimization that entrap them in dysfunctional behavior patterns.

Cordero House

A long-term residential program, Cordero serves boys 14 to 19 and their families who are in need of individual, group and family counseling as the result of sexual abuse. Services include residential and out patient skill building and mental health counseling, psychiatric assessment and medication management for youth in the custody of the Oregon Youth Authority.

Cordero is one of a small number of programs offering intensive supervision, residential services and mental health services specifically focused on sexual offending and victimization. The program also offers an on-campus high school in conjunction with the Tigard/Tualatin School District.

Imani House

Imani House is a residential treatment program located in North Portland and serves adolescent males ages 13-17 who are in the care and custody of the Department of Human Services. Imani specializes in the treatment of youth and families who have experienced sexual abuse and have displayed sexually reactive behaviors. The length of placement is six months to one year and is dependent on the assessed needs of the youth and their response to treatment. The therapeutic approach at Imani is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the Positive Peer Culture Model, and evidenced based treatments for sexually reactive youth. Treatment domains include individual, group and family, counseling and skills training. The program places a strong emphasis on family healing and reunification. Imani partners with Portland Public Schools to provide middle school and high school classrooms that educate and support a youth's varying educational and behavioral levels.
