Yellow Brick Road To Host Training Event June 8

Date: Sunday, June 8, 2014

Time: 2 pm - 5 pm

Location: Downtown Portland

Yellow Brick Road is hosting a free training event on Sunday, June 8, open to anyone in the community over age 18. The event will run from 2 to 5 pm with a light lunch provided.

The event provides an opportunity to meet the current outreach volunteers and staff and learn more about resources for homeless youth in Washington and Oregon. We will discuss street outreach, volunteer opportunities with Janus and other topics related to youth homelessness, poverty, exploitation and social justice.

Join us and our guest speakers for an introduction to Trauma Informed Care - a recognized best practice in the field of human services. We will have guests from the Portland Police discussing their attention to downtown sidewalks, livability issues and engagement strategies for homeless and summer travelers.

Seating is limited, RSVP to dlundberg@janusyouth.org to reserve your spot and get the address.

Eighth Grader Organizes Race For Janus Youth

When 14-year-old Bella told her mother she wanted to organize her own “Family Fun Run” to benefit Janus Youth Programs, her mom thought, “Why don’t you just run in a race instead?” But Bella had a vision and a strong drive to organize the event herself, which she did on May 20th at the Wilson High School track. Every detail of the event—from garnering donations for swag items, applying for a grant to help offset costs, organizing a bake sale, to publicity—Bella planned with support from family and friends. The event was a big success and raised close to $1,000 for Janus.
